How to use Competitor Tracking in Rank Tracker

Competitor Tracking is a newly released feature in Sitechecker's Rank Tracker that allows you to monitor your competitors’ rankings and visibility metrics. This guide will help you understand how to effectively use this feature to gain competitive insights and enhance your SEO strategy.

Competitor Tracking is available only to users on Standard, Premium, and Enterprise plans. If you are on a Free trial, Free, or Basic plan, you will not be able to access this feature.

  • Standard plan users can track up to 5 competitors.
  • Premium plan users can track up to 10 competitors.

How to set up tracking

  1. Navigate to the Competitors tab in the Rank Tracker or via the Project Settings after you have added your keywords.

  2. Add competitors either manually by entering their domain names or by using the automatic suggestions generated based on the keywords you have entered.

Here are some main metrics that we will show you for the competitors we have suggested:

    • Keyword intersect – This shows the count of common keywords that you and your competitors rank for.
    • Estimated monthly traffic – Provides an estimate of the traffic received by the competitor. This metric is calculated based on the number of clicks a website is estimated to receive from search results. This calculation takes into account the ranking positions of keywords, their search volumes, and the typical click-through rates (CTRs) for those positions. Essentially, it aggregates the expected traffic across all keywords for which a site ranks in the search engine results pages (SERPs).
    • Visibility – Indicates the visibility level of the competitor's website in search results.

Note: The system can generate suggestions, considering the first 200 keywords inputted for your project.

Viewing and analyzing competitor data

After adding competitors, you can view them in a dedicated Competitors tab in the Rank Tracker. There you can switch between 2 main view options:

  • Keywords - Here you can see keyword-related statistics.

  • Competitors- In this tab, you will get the information about your competitor's general stats for all the keywords you track.

There is functionality to export the data from the tables for further analysis or reporting. It can be done the same way you export the statistics for your keywords, by clicking the Export button at the top of the page.

Additional features

  • Google updates and comments on the graph: The same as in "Keywords" tab, the graph in the Competitors tab will not only display the Visibility metric by default but also show markers for Google updates and any comments related to keyword additions.
  • Icon representation: There are favicon icons for each competitor's domain are displayed next to their name for easier identification.

Tips for effective competitor tracking

  • Regularly update the list of competitors to keep the data relevant as your market dynamics change.
  • Utilize the keyword Intersect metric to identify new keyword opportunities or areas where your competitors are gaining traction.
  • Analyze the estimated monthly traffic and visibility metrics to gauge the effectiveness of competitors’ SEO strategies and adapt your tactics accordingly.

By leveraging the Competitor Tracking feature in Sitechecker's Rank Tracker, you can gain valuable insights into your competitors' SEO performance and refine your strategy to achieve better search engine rankings.
