How to use Competitors tab in AI Visibility

The Competitors report in Sitechecker AI Visibility compares how often AI assistants mention and cite your brand against your competitors.

It uses the same prompts you track in the Prompts report and shows brand visibility and citation share for you and each competitor side by side, across ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Google AI Mode and Copilot.

What you can do with Competitors

  • See which brands AI assistants mention most for the questions you track.
  • Compare your citation share with each competitor's.
  • Follow how your position against competitors changes over time.
  • Check which AI models favor which competitor.
  • Find the competitors to study first before you plan content or outreach.

How it works

The Competitors report does not need its own prompts. It reads the same AI answers Sitechecker collects for your tracked prompts.

For every answer, Sitechecker checks whether it mentions each competitor's brand by name. It also checks whether any cited source belongs to a competitor's domain.

The report then adds these results up for each competitor across all your prompts in the selected period.

Your own domain always appears in the same list, so you can compare yourself with competitors at a glance.

Before you start

You need at least a few tracked prompts. If you have not added any yet, start with the Prompts article.

You also need competitors in your project. AI Visibility uses the same competitor list as Rank Tracker, so if you already track competitors there, they appear here automatically.

Adding competitors

To add or change competitors, open your project settings and go to Competitors.

Add the domains of your competitors. Sitechecker uses each domain to count citations and finds the competitor's brand name to count mentions in AI answers [confirm: whether users can see or edit the detected brand names].

You can track up to 10 competitors in the report.

Any change you make here also updates the competitor list in Rank Tracker.

Filters

Use the date picker to choose the period.

Use the AI model filter to see all models together or one model at a time. This helps you spot a competitor that is strong in one AI assistant but weak in others.

Use the country filter to focus on one or several markets.

Every filter updates both the charts and the table.

Competitors table

The table shows one row for your domain and one row for each competitor. All numbers cover all your tracked prompts in the selected period and follow the active filters.

The table shows these columns:

  • Competitor: the domain with its favicon. Click it to open the website.
  • AI Model: the AI models included in the current view.
  • Prompt runs: how many times your prompts ran in the selected period.
  • Mentions: how many times AI answers mentioned this brand.
  • Visibility: the percentage of prompt runs where this brand was mentioned.
  • Citations: how many cited sources in the answers point to this domain.
  • Cit. Share: the percentage of all citations that point to this domain.

Sort by Visibility to see who AI mentions most. Sort by Cit. Share to see whose website AI trusts most as a source.

Competitors in other parts of AI Visibility

You can also see competitors in the Prompts report, at the level of a single question.

Open Prompt Details on any prompt to see your visibility or citation share next to each competitor for that prompt only. This shows which questions a competitor wins.

In the Responses tab, each AI answer shows which competitors it mentioned. Open Response Details to read the full answer with competitor names highlighted.

In citation lists, competitor domains are marked with an orange icon and your own domain with a blue crown.

How to use it in practice

  1. Start by comparing your Visibility with the top competitor in the table. The gap shows how far you are behind in AI answers overall.
  2. Then compare Visibility and Citations Share for the same competitor. A brand with high visibility but low citation share is mentioned often but rarely used as a source. Its strength comes from other sites talking about it.
  3. Next, switch the AI model filter one model at a time. If a competitor leads only in one assistant, look at what that assistant cites in the Citations & Domains report.
  4. Finally, open Prompt Details for prompts where a competitor leads. The cited sources there show where you need to appear.
  5. For agencies, the Competitors report is an easy way to show clients where they stand against named rivals in AI search, and how that changes month to month.

Frequently asked questions

What does the Competitors report in Sitechecker AI Visibility show? It shows brand visibility, mentions, citations and citation share for your domain and up to 10 competitors, across all your tracked prompts and AI models.

Do I need separate prompts to track competitors? No. The Competitors report uses the same prompts and AI answers as the Prompts report.

Where do I add competitors for AI Visibility? Add them in your project settings under Competitors. AI Visibility uses the same list as Rank Tracker.

How many competitors can I track in AI Visibility? You can track up to 10 competitors in the Competitors report, plus your own domain.

Why does a competitor have high visibility but low citation share? AI answers mention the brand often but rarely link to its website. The brand gets its visibility from other sources, such as reviews, listings or articles that talk about it.

Can I see which AI model favors a competitor? Yes. Use the AI model filter to view one AI model at a time. The charts and table update to show results for that model only.

Why does a competitor show 0% visibility? None of the AI answers in the selected period mentioned that brand. Check the period and filters, and make sure the competitor domain in your project settings is correct.
