How to use Citations & Domains tab in AI Visibility

The Citations & Domains report in Sitechecker AI Visibility shows which websites and pages AI assistants cite when they answer your tracked prompts.

It ranks the most cited domains and pages, shows whether your brand appears on each cited page, and helps you find the pages where you should be present.

What you can do with Citations & Domains

  • See which domains AI assistants use as sources most often in your niche.
  • Find every page AI cites for your prompts, with its content type.
  • Check whether your brand and your competitors are mentioned or linked on each cited page.
  • Get a priority list of pages for outreach and placements.
  • See which prompts each domain appears in.

How it works

When an AI assistant answers one of your tracked prompts, it often lists sources. Sitechecker saves every source from every answer.

The report adds these sources up for the selected period. A page cited twice in one answer counts as two citations.

Sitechecker also visits each cited page. It checks whether the page mentions your brand or links to your site, and does the same for your competitors.

Before you start

You need tracked prompts. Citations come from the AI answers to those prompts. If you have not added any yet, start with the Prompts article.

To see competitor presence on cited pages, add your competitors in the project's Competitors settings.

Domains tab

The Domains tab opens by default. It ranks the domains AI cites most often in answers to your prompts.

For each domain, you see how many times it was cited and its citation share. Citation share is the percentage of all citations in the selected period that point to that domain.

Click a domain to open Domain Citations.

The Unique Citations tab lists every page of that domain that AI cited, sorted by citation share, with the AI models that cited it. The Prompts tab lists the prompts where the domain was cited, with your mentions and visibility for each one.

Click Copy Citations to copy all URLs of the domain as a list.

Citations tab

The Citations tab lists every unique page AI cited for your prompts, one row per URL.

The table shows these columns:

  • Page: the page title and URL. Click the icon to open the page.
  • Content type: the type of page, such as reviews, listings or education. A page can have several types.
  • AI Model: the AI models that cited this page.
  • # of Citations: how many times AI cited this page in the selected period.
  • Citation Share: the percentage of all citations that point to this page.
  • Your Presence: whether the page mentions your brand, links to your site, both, or neither.
  • Competitors on page: the competitors mentioned or linked on the page.
  • Priority: how valuable the page is as an outreach or placement target.

Use the Content type filter to focus on certain kinds of pages, for example review sites or listings. You can also filter by Priority and Your Presence.

Your Presence and Priority

Your Presence shows how your brand appears on each cited page:

  • Mentioned + linked: the page names your brand and links to your site.
  • Mentioned only: the page names your brand but does not link to you.
  • Linked only: the page links to your site but does not name your brand.
  • Absent: the page does not mention or link to you.
  • Couldn't verify: Sitechecker could not check the page.

Priority combines your presence with how often AI cites the page. A page AI cites often where you are absent gets a high priority.

Pages where you are already mentioned and linked show as Covered. Pages that could not be checked show as Unverified. The rest are split into High, Medium and Low.

Citation details in other reports

The same citation details appear in Prompt Details, Response Details and Domain Citations. Each citation card shows its content type, your presence and the competitors on the page.

Your own domain is marked with a blue crown and competitor domains with an orange icon.

How to use it in practice

  1. Start with the Domains tab and look at the top 10 domains. These are the sites AI trusts most in your niche.
  2. Switch the AI model filter one model at a time. If one assistant relies on a few domains, getting onto those domains can move your visibility there quickly.
  3. Then open the Citations tab and filter by Priority: High. These are often-cited pages where your brand is missing.
  4. Filter by Content type to split the work. Listings and review pages are usually open to placements. Articles and guides are better for outreach.
  5. Pages with Mentioned only are quick wins. Ask the site owner to add a link to the mention.
  6. When you get a placement on a cited page, add the page to Page Tracker to see whether AI keeps citing it.
