How to use Prompts tab in AI Visibility

The Prompts report in Sitechecker AI Visibility shows how often AI assistants mention and cite your brand when people ask questions about your market.

You add the questions your buyers ask. Sitechecker runs them every day in ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Google AI Mode and Copilot, and shows your visibility, citations and trends for each one.

What you can do with Prompts

  • Track how often AI answers mention your brand for each question you care about.
  • See how many citations in those answers point to your website.
  • Compare your visibility with competitors for every prompt.
  • Read the full AI answer for any run, with your brand and competitors highlighted.
  • Follow how your visibility changes over 7, 30, 90 and 180 days.

What is a prompt

A prompt is a question you want to track in AI assistants, for example "What is the best SEO tool for agencies?".

Each prompt has three settings: the text, the country, and the AI models it runs in.

Sitechecker sends each prompt to every selected AI model once a day and saves the full answer.

For every answer, Sitechecker checks whether it mentions your brand or your competitors by name. It also records every source the answer cites, such as a page on your site or on a review site.

Before you start

AI Visibility works inside a Sitechecker project.

Your project needs a brand name, because Sitechecker uses it to find your brand in AI answers. You set the brand name when you create a project, or later in the project's domain settings.

To compare yourself with competitors, add them in the project's Competitors settings. AI Visibility uses the same competitor list as Rank Tracker.

Adding prompts

You can add prompts in two places.

When you create a new full-scale project, the AI Visibility step lets you add prompts right away. You can skip this step and add them later.

In an existing project, open the AI Visibility settings of your project and go to Add prompts.

Here is how it works:

  1. Choose your AI models. ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Google AI Mode and Copilot are all selected by default. Uncheck the ones you do not need.
  2. Choose a country. AI answers often differ by region, so pick the market you want to track.
  3. Generate or write prompts. Enter keywords or pick suggested keywords, then click Generate prompts with keywords. Or click Add prompts manually and type your own questions, one per line.
  4. Save your setup. Sitechecker shows how many prompts were added. The first results appear after the next daily run.

Generated prompts are the fastest option if you already know your important keywords.

Manual prompts work best when you know the exact questions your buyers ask, for example from sales calls or support tickets. Each manual prompt can be up to 150 characters, including spaces. Press Enter to start a new one.

You can add up to 100 prompts at a time.

Each prompt tracked in one AI model uses one prompt from your plan limit.

If you track one prompt in all five AI models, it uses five prompts from your limit. This works the same for generated and manual prompts.

Filters

Use the date picker to choose the period.

Use the AI model filter to see all models together or one model at a time, and the country filter to focus on one or several markets.

The search field finds prompts by their text. Every filter updates both the charts and the table.

Brand Visibility and Citation Share

Brand Visibility is the percentage of all prompt runs in the selected period where the AI answer mentions your brand. If your prompts ran 100 times and your brand appeared in 25 answers, your brand visibility is 25%.

Citation Share is the percentage of all citations in the selected period that point to your domain. It shows how often AI models use your website as a source.

You can view the chart by day, week or month. You can also add notes to mark events like a content launch or a PR campaign.

Prompts table

When All AI models is selected, each prompt appears once, with icons for every AI model it runs in. Its numbers combine the results from all those models.

When you pick one AI model in the filter, the table shows only the prompts tracked in that model, with results for that model only.

The table shows these columns for each prompt:

  • Prompt runs: how many times the prompt ran in the selected period.
  • Your Mentions: how many times AI answers mentioned your brand.
  • Your Visibility: the percentage of runs where your brand was mentioned.
  • Trend: a small chart of your visibility for this prompt. Click the magnifier icon to open a larger chart.
  • 7, 30, 90 and 180 days: how your visibility changed compared with that many days ago, in percentage points (pp). A dash means there is not enough history yet.
  • All Citations: the total number of sources cited in the answers.
  • Your Citations: how many of those sources were pages on your domain.
  • Your Citation Share: the percentage of all citations that point to your domain.

Use Manage Columns to show or hide columns. The 30, 90 and 180 days columns are hidden by default, and Sitechecker remembers your choice.

Prompt Details

Click Prompt Details on any row to open a side panel with everything about that prompt in the selected period.

The top of the panel shows your visibility, the AI models, the country, the number of responses, the competitors mentioned and the date of the last run. You can switch between all AI models and a single model.

The Overview tab has two parts.

Visibility dynamics vs competitors chart shows your brand visibility or citation share over time next to each competitor, so you can see who AI favors for this question.

Response breakdown lists every answer the prompt received, with your mentions, the competitors mentioned and how many citations went to your domain.

The Citations tab lists every unique source cited for this prompt, with its number of citations and citation share. Your own domain is marked with a blue crown and competitor domains with an orange icon.

Click Copy Citations to copy all URLs as a list.

Responses tab

The Responses tab lists every single AI answer Sitechecker collected, one row per run. Use it when you want to read what AI actually says, not only the totals.

Each row shows a preview of the answer, the AI model, your mentions, the competitors mentioned, the number of citations, your citation share and the date the answer was received.

You can search inside the answer text and filter by AI model, country and date.

Click Response Details to open the full answer. The AI Response tab shows the complete text with your brand and competitors highlighted.

The Citations tab lists the sources in the order the AI used them, with your domain and competitor domains marked.

How to use it in practice

  1. Start with 20 to 50 prompts that match real buyer questions in your niche. Track them in all AI models for a few weeks.
  2. Then sort the table by Your Visibility to find the questions where AI never mentions you.
  3. Open Prompt Details for those prompts to see which competitors appear instead and which sources AI cites. Those sources are your best targets for new content, outreach or placements.
  4. Check the 7 and 30 days columns after each content release to see whether your visibility moves.
  5. For agencies, the Prompts report gives a simple baseline for each client. Track the same prompts every month and report the change in brand visibility and citation share.

Frequently asked questions

How often does Sitechecker run my prompts? Sitechecker runs each tracked prompt once a day in every AI model you selected for it.

Which AI models can I track prompts in? You can track prompts in ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Google AI Mode and Copilot. You choose the models for each prompt when you add it.

What is the difference between brand visibility and citation share? Brand visibility shows how often AI answers mention your brand by name. Citation share shows what part of all sources cited in AI answers point to your website. Your brand can be mentioned without your site being cited, and the other way around.

How many prompts does one question use from my limit? One prompt tracked in one AI model uses one prompt from your limit. The same question tracked in five AI models uses five.

Can I add my own prompts instead of generated ones? Yes. Click Add prompts manually in the AI Visibility settings and type your questions, one per line, up to 150 characters each.

Why does a change column show a dash? A dash means Sitechecker does not have enough history for that period yet. For example, the 30 days column fills in once the prompt has been tracked for 30 days.

Can I see the full answer ChatGPT gave for my prompt? Yes. Open the Responses tab and click Response Details on any answer to read the full text, with your brand and competitors highlighted and all cited sources listed.

Why is my brand visibility 0%? Your brand visibility is 0% when none of the AI answers in the selected period mentioned your brand. Check that your project's brand name is correct, then look at Prompt Details to see which competitors and sources AI uses instead.
